Title: Senior Java / C++ Developer

·          The Senior Java/C++ Developer will be responsible for the analysis, design, implementation and unit testing of automated underwriting back-end services components and enhancements.  The developer must be able to analyze business requirements accurately and translate these into effective technical designs and robust software solutions. The position requires a highly motivated self-starter who can work well with both business and technical groups with general guidance and minimal direct supervision. Attention to detail is critical as are strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

·          Use C++ and Java to develop new components and enhancements for back-end services that support automated underwriting technology. Apply technical skills to business systems development projects.

·          Review business requirements and use cases and provide feedback to management and/or business analysts.

·          Assist QA and Business Test teams by reviewing test plans, test case scenarios as well as resolving test findings.

·          Provide third tier production support.  Requires periodically carrying a pager and providing 24x7 availability to investigate production issues.

·          Adhere to processes and procedures in support of compliance and internal controls, including ESLIF, S/OX, and internal Audit.

Position Description

·          As part of Enterprise Systems Management’s (ESM) Web and Application Server Support team, this position is responsible for front-line support of Fannie Mae’s Web enabled Applications and Web Server infrastructure.  Will work with Fannie Mae Technology application teams to build and configure J2EE containers and Web Servers to support deployment of J2EE applications.  Will work with other ESM infrastructure support teams (UNIX, LINUX, Database, Monitoring and Scheduling teams) to plan and coordinate application activities that are dependant on these resources.

Responsibilities:

·          Providing Tier 1 production administration and support for Fannie Mae’s Web Enabled Application and Web Server environment from the Reston, Virginia Technology Center.

·          Hands-on installation, configuration and maintenance of BEA WebLogic 8 and 9 on Sun Solaris or Suse LINUX Platforms. This includes troubleshooting production issues and deploying application components.

·          Hands-on installation, configuration and maintenance of Sun Java Enterprise System Web Server and Apache Web Servers on Solaris and LINUX platforms.

·          Develop and document, UNIX shell and perl scripts, or java applications that will automate tedious administration processes.

·          Production Support of Fannie Mae business applications:  start and stop of application instances; trouble shooting application failures, and diagnosing performance or reliability issues of applications; assisting application teams in the use of Fannie Mae specific java support tools.

·          Projects:  Research, design and documentation of infrastructure solutions for large application development and production deployment projects.

·          Customer support to Application Development teams:  Setting customer expectations and working with customers to achieve best results; demonstrate cooperative teaming skills to achieve results that cannot be derived from the engineer’s actions alone; and the ability to collaborate within a cross functional team

Qualifications:

Must-Have Skills:

·          A BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree.

·          3-5 years of J2EE application experience either as an application administrator or developer.

·          Hands-on knowledge of a BEA WebLogic and with Web Server technologies such as iPlanet, Apache.

·          Hands-on experience with JNDI, JDBC, JMS, EJB, MDB, JSP and Servlets.

·          Technical experience with Unix shell scripting, or Perl scripting.

·          Practical knowledge for J2EE Application administration, including installation, configuration, starting and stopping application instances, application deployment, clustering and troubleshooting J2EE applications. Must have working knowledge multi-tier web enabled applications and be able to diagnose and trouble shoot problems that may occur on any of the components or at the interfaces between components of the application system.

·          Experience with Java development in a J2EE environment is preferred.

·          Installation, configuration of Web Servers and troubleshooting Web Server issues.

·          Demonstrated knowledge of UNIX Command line utilities and operations in a UNIX environment.

·          Clearly demonstrated communication and teaming skills.  Must be able to convey information concerning problems, solutions, or task to other team members for resolution or implementation.  Must be able to clearly convey to customers information concerning solutions and projects.

·          Clearly demonstrated problem solving skills.  Must be able to perform root cause analysis and determine cause of problems in order to develop specific solution to an issue.  Must be able to document and communicate a problems solution to customers or other system administrators in addition to implementing the solution.
